Refugee or Migrant? Choosing the right word when reporting

Listen to this On the Media story from NPR. Word choice really makes a difference in important ways. The program reports, “As the crisis in the Mediterranean intensifies, news outlets have been wrestling with terms: should we say “migrant crisis” or “refugee crisis”? Which is most accurate, and which more ethical?”

We have “pictures in our heads” and visual references we take away from television and social media about the crisis.  The New York Times Magazine has graphic, painful pictures of what’s really going on…do these pictures change your view?
